As the MotoGP™ action on the first day of Free Practice at the GP Generali de la Comunitat Valenciana concluded it was Marc Marquez who set the pace with his teammate Dani Pedrosa only 0.066s behind him, and title rival Jorge Lorenzo 0.158s off the pace in third.

Despite the windy conditions in the afternoon’s FP2 at the Valencia track, Marquez stepped up the pace in the second half of the session, with his best time of 1’31.220 not far off Pedrosa’s pole record of 1’30.844 from last year. Pedrosa was very close to his Repsol Honda colleague, with both of them still looking for more grip – using both the softer and harder option rear tyres.

Lorenzo improved late on in the session on his regular number-one machine, having spent time before on his number-two bike with holes in the front bubble to cope with the windy conditions. Monster Yamaha Tech 3’s Cal Crutchlow had a great day as he ended up fourth overall despite a late low-side crash, from which he escaped unhurt. The Englishman rides in his last GP for the team this weekend before departing for Ducati.

Yamaha Factory Racing’s Valentino Rossi, who is working with Crew Chief Jeremy Burgess for the last time this weekend, was fifth fastest on Friday, 0.4s off the pace. After his statements that he needs to get quicker for next year, he will hope for a strong push in tomorrow’s practice.

The top ten was rounded out by Stefan Bradl (LCR Honda), Alvaro Bautista (GO&FUN Honda Gresini), Bradley Smith (Monster Yamaha Tech 3) and Ducati Team pair Andrea Dovizioso and Nicky Hayden. Bradl is keen to resolve front-end grip issues, whilst Batista is working with a new Showa rear shock provided for this weekend.

Power Electronics Aspar’s Aleix Espargaro was unhurt after he crashed his ART machine, which was the new bike him and his team are testing this weekend for the Italian outfit. Despite switching bikes on Monday, Team Manager Gino Borsoi said that the team is pleased to help Aprilia until that day, hence why Espargaro is giving feedback on the new bike featuring a different frame, swingarm and engine. He ended the day 13th on the timesheet.

Having topped the FP1 timesheet, new Moto2™ World Champion Pol Espargaro was fastest again on Friday afternoon at the GP Generali de la Comunitat Valenciana, with his 1’35.548 lap keeping him 0.142s ahead of Tuenti HP 40 teammate Tito Rabat, and 0.426s in front of Interwetten Paddock Moto2 Racing’s Thomas Luthi.

Espargaro will ride a Monster Yamaha Tech3 MotoGP™ bike in testing next week and the pressure is off in many ways, having already clinched the title, but he now intends to end the season on a high. The Spaniard dominated both sessions at the Ricardo Tormo circuit on Friday but almost had a clash with wildcard rider Gino Rea during the afternoon, with both riders just managing to avoid going down.

Behind Espargaro, teammate Rabat aims for a strong finish to the season in his last race for Sito Pons’ outfit, and that pair could do battle for the win on Sunday if today’s pace is anything to judge by. Switzerland’s Tom Luthi would also be a good bet for a podium finish, though having also lapped in the top five Alex de Angelis (NGM Mobile Forward Racing) and Simone Corsi (NGM Mobile Racing) will aim to run at the front as the weekend progresses.

The top ten was completed by Jordi Torres, Mika Kallio, Nico Terol, Xavier Simeon and Julian Simon, all lapping within tenth tenths of a second of the leading time.

The Friday Moto3™ Free Practice sessions at the GP Generali de la Comunitat Valenciana were topped by the trio fighting for the title, with Luis Salom leading Alex Rins and Maverick Viñales.

Salom’s best time of 1’40.403 from FP1 was the best of the day and the Red Bull KTM Ajo man’s best FP2 time was just a tenth of a second slower, as Rins (Estrella Galicia 0,0) topped the timesheet in the latter session with a 1’40.489 fastest lap.

Team Calvo’s Viñales was third best in both sessions and his FP2 time of 1’40.580 was his best time of the day, as the three Spanish title candidates flexed their muscles in front of the home fans.

German rider Jonas Folger (Mapfre Aspar Team Moto3) and Australian competitor Jack Miller (Caretta Technology – RTG) were fourth and fifth overall respectively, but both were unable to improve on their morning best times in FP2.

The overall top ten was completed by Efren Vazquez (Mahindra Racing), Zulfahmi Khairuddin (Red Bull KTM Ajo), Niccolo Antonelli (GO&FUN Gresini Moto3), Miguel Oliveira (Mahindra Racing) and Alexis Masbou (Ongetta-Rivacold).

Khairuddin has had some costly crashes in recent weeks and he walked away from a big highside at the conclusion of the session, whilst Lorenzo Baldassarri was also unhurt in a light crash towards the end of the outing.

Brad Binder was taken to the Medical Centre with a suspected collarbone injury, as was Alan Techer, after both had FP2 crashes. Whilst Binder was cleared with shoulder contusion, Techer has suffered a left wrist fracture.

In Valencia this weekend at the Gran Premio Generali de la Comunitat Valenciana, MotoGP™ fans the world over will enjoy a final-race title decider for the first time in seven years, as Repsol Honda Team’s Marc Marquez looks to hold off the charge from Yamaha Factory Racing’s reigning World Champion Jorge Lorenzo.

The last time such a showdown occurred was in 2006 when Honda’s Nicky Hayden claimed the ultimate honour as Yamaha’s Valentino Rossi made a rare mistake. Seven years on, more drama is certain as Marc Marquez and Jorge Lorenzo go head-to-head at the climax of what has been a riveting season. Marquez heads to Valencia with a championship-leading advantage of 13 points, meaning a single fourth place would guarantee the title no matter what Lorenzo is capable of.

Looking at the rookie’s track record this looks to be a certain, however if Valencia’s rain-hit race of last year is anything to go by, anything can happen. It was Repsol’s Dani Pedrosa who won the race last year, and will this year be out to prove a point, as he saw his title chances go after his third place in Motegi. Yamaha’s Valentino Rossi could prove to be a big factor in the outcome of the race, as he looks to hold off Marquez’s charge and help out his teammate Lorenzo.

Another player could be Monster Yamaha Tech3’s Cal Crutchlow, who has not only cemented fifth place in the championship, but also contests his last race on board a Yamaha before his switch to Ducati. GO&FUN Honda Gresini’s Alvaro Bautista has been continually improving throughout the season and will hope to impress his home fans, whilst LCR Honda MotoGP’s Stefan Bradl should be much closer to full fitness after fracturing his right ankle in Malaysia.

Nicky Hayden will aim to have a good weekend on his last for the Ducati Team and get one over on his teammate Andrea Dovizioso, whilst the Ignite Pramac and Energy T.I. Pramac machines of Yonny Hernandez and Andrea Dovizioso will hope to hold off Power Electronics Aspar’s Aleix Espargaro. Espargaro has already collected top CRT honours, but will aim to celebrate that with another spot in Parc Ferme in front of local support. The grid will be two riders stronger, as Michele Pirro lines up for the Ducati Test team, and Austrian Martin Bauer makes another appearance with his S&B Suter with the Remus Racing Team.

Heading to Valencia for the last round of 2013, Moto2™ is the only category in which the title has already been decided, in favour of Pol Espargaro. However, plenty of rivals will be looking for a confidence-boosting victory at the end of another tiring campaign.

With just the sole round still to run, Espargaro (Tuenti HP 40) heads the luckless Scott Redding (Marc VDS Racing Team) by the unassailable margin of 41 points, with a maximum of 25 still on offer. Compounding a dreadful end to the triple-header, Redding was taken out of the Japanese Grand Prix in a crash triggered by third title contender and Espargaro’s teammate, Tito Rabat. Both men will now be looking to put one over the Champion in Valencia, with Espargaro and Redding then heading to MotoGP™ for 2014, while Rabat remains in Moto2™ with Marc VDS.

There will be plenty more to fight for at the Ricardo Tormo circuit, as well. Fourth, eighth and tenth in the championship, Mika Kallio (Marc VDS), and Aspar Team Moto2 pairing Nico Terol and Jordi Torres will all be searching for one more win before the end of the season, whereas no less than four of the riders in the overall top ten are still on the lookout for a victory before moving into the off-season.

Regular wildcard Gino Rea will be taking part once more with his Gino Rea Montaze Broz Racing team, as will other familiar, Malaysian Hafiz Syahrin, with the Petronas Raceline Malaysia outfit.

Any one of three riders could leave Valencia this weekend with a maiden Moto3™ world title. At present, a blanket could be thrown over the trio, with Luis Salom, Maverick Viñales and Alex Rins covered by just five points.

In 2012, Germany’s Sandro Cortese clinched the first ever Moto3™ title with a pair of races to spare. A year later, a campaign of mixed results has left Red Bull KTM Ajo’s Luis Salom, Team Calvo’s Maverick Viñales and Estrella Galicia 0,0’s Alex Rins with almost equal opportunities heading into Valencia. Salom leads Viñales by just two points, with Rins only a further three in arrears. It was those three, in that very order, who won the opening three races of the year and, until Rins’ teammate Alex Marquez triumphed for the first time in Japan, no other rider had clinched a lightweight class victory in 2013.

At the same time, Marquez will be keen to complete the year with back-to-back wins, while Jonas Folger (Mapfre Aspar Team Moto3) and Miguel Oliveira (Mahindra Racing) would certainly be deserving of a victory should they achieve the feat. There will be two wildcards in the line-up with Jorge Navarro racing for MIR Racing, and Venezuelan Michael Ruben Rinaldi taking part on a third Mahindra. As for the Constructors’ fight, KTM has hit its fourth century of points and was the first title winner in any class this year, sealing that particular honour back at Silverstone.

37 teams and 65 riders sign up for 2014 Moto2™ and Moto3™

Teams wishing to proceed with entries to the Moto2™ and Moto3™ World Championships of 2014 submitted their requests ahead of the first day of the Gran Premio Aperol di San Marino e Riviera di Rimini on Friday 13th September.

As is typical with these classes, the number of applications for entries greatly exceeded the number of vacant places on the grid. During the Aperol di San Marino e Riviera di Rimini event, all applications were considered by the Selection Committee which comprises of delegates from IRTA and Dorna. Provisional offers to participate have now been made to:

– 20 Moto2™ class teams with a total of 33 riders

– 17 Moto3™ class teams with a total of 32 riders

Those teams provisionally accepted now have until Friday 11th October, coinciding with the opening day of practice for the Shell Advance Malaysian Motorcycle Grand Prix, to lodge a security deposit in order to guarantee their entry and to reconfirm details of proposed riders.

An additional selection meeting will then take place at the Sepang International Circuit as an opportunity to review the applications and, in particular, to consider the proposed riders; further details on the 2014 entries will be made available after that meeting.

As the MotoGP™ grid heads to the GP Aperol di San Marino e della Riviera di Rimini in Misano this weekend there is once again only one thing on riders’ minds – how to close the gap to championship leader Marc Marquez.

Last time out in Silverstone it was Yamaha Factory Racing’s reigning world champion Jorge Lorenzo who managed to figure it out by beating the Repsol Honda Team rookie sensation with a bold move in the final few corners. Lorenzo will aim for much of the same as he tries to cut the lead to the Repsol Honda men, including Dani Pedrosa, who will look to convert his outright pace into a win to get his title challenge back on course. Marquez may prove tougher to beat in Misano however, as he will have recovered further from the left dislocated collarbone he picked up in a crash in Sunday Warm-Up at the last race.

Yamaha’s Valentino Rossi is aiming to find his end-of-race pace directly off the start line, as that looks to be the weak link stopping him from challenging for a podium or win once more. GO&FUN Honda Gresini’s Alvaro Bautista on the other hand will be searching for a way past the famous Italian, having lost out to him narrowly in the last three races. LCR Honda MotoGP’s Stefan Bradl has been somewhat off-colour in recent races, despite showing great pace over one lap. He will need to rediscover the race pace that saw him take second in Laguna Seca, whereas Monster Yamaha Tech3’s Cal Crutchlow will look to forget his crash-plagued Silverstone and get back to challenging for the podium.

The Ducati Team duo may fare better at Misano than in previous outings, as they occasionally use it as a test track during the season. Yet no doubt they will have Tech3’s British rookie Bradley Smith to contend with, who has recently been tussling with the Ducatis on track. Ignite Pramac Racing’s Ben Spies is once again replaced due to injury by Ducati test rider Michele Pirro, who will make it a fully Italian garage alongside Energy T.I. Pramac’s Andrea Iannone.

Power Electronics Aspar’s Aleix Espargaro still looks near unstoppable as top CRT on his ART machine, and the likes of NGM Mobile Forward Racing’s Colin Edwards and Avintia Blusens’ Hector Barbera will have a tough job chasing him down.

The top news running up to Misano is that of inaugural Moto2™ World Champion Toni Elias, who has now departed the Blusens Avintia team. The Spaniard is in negotiations regarding a move to the eni FIM Superbike World Championship, while he is replaced in the intermediate class by Argentina’s Ezequiel Iturrioz.

Fresh from winning his home race, Marc VDS Racing Team’s Scott Redding will head into this weekend’s GP Aperol di San Marino e della Riviera di Rimini in Misano as favourite, with Tuenti HP 40 title rival Pol Espargaro needing a good race to reduce the Brit’s lead.

Redding was on superb form in Silverstone, and will prove tough to beat in Misano, however with the likes of Interwetten Paddock Moto2 Racing’s Tom Luthi and Italtrans Racing Team’s Takaaki Nakagami on form at the moment, there are many contenders for the win. Espargaro had a weekend to forget in the UK, though in Misano will still remain one of the favourites for the podium, as will his teammate Esteve Rabat, who usually looks strong towards the end of the race.

The NGM Mobile Forward Racing team could be one to watch with local rider Alex de Angelis, as well as two other strong Italians in the form of Simone Corsi and Mattia Pasini. Idemitsu Honda Team Asia has replaced Yuki Takahashi permanently with Malaysian Azlan Shah, whilst Australian Jason O’Halloran steps in once again for the inured Mike di Meglio in the JiR Moto2 team.

Gino Rea is the only wildcard this weekend with his Gino Rea Montaze Broz Racing team. Blusens Avintia’s Dani Rivas will not contest the race due to injury and will be covered for by Spanish compatriot Alex Mariñelarena. At Federal Oil Gresini Moto2, Italy’s Franco Morbidelli stands in for Doni Tata Pradita for this event.

Argiñano & Gines Racing’s Steven Odendaal is set to appear in Misano, despite suffering a broken right ankle in Moto2 Warm-Up at Silverstone, but will have to pass a medical test before being allowed out on-track.

Red Bull KTM Ajo’s Luis Salom is firmly in charge as the Moto3™ contingent heads to this weekend’s GP Aperol di San Marino e della Riviera di Rimini in Misano to fight it out for the lightweight title.

Salom has looked in dominant form in recent races, and the likes of Team Calvo’s Maverick Viñales and Estrella Galicia 0,0’s Alex Rins will be trying their best to get past the Mallorcan and claw back some points. Rins’ teammate Alex Marquez is proving to be a constant podium threat, whilst Caretta Technology – RTG’s Jack Miller is always one to watch.

Away from the track there is a significant technology switch with the Ambrogio Racing team switching from Suter-Honda bikes to Mahindras. This means that for the first time ever there will be four permanent Mahindra bikes on the grid in the Moto3™ World Championship. Add to that the Misano wildcard of Italian Andrea Locatelli alongside regular riders Miguel Oliveira and Efren Vazquez, and there will be five.

And providing another twist this weekend will be wildcard Luca Marini with his team Twelve Racing – the Italian being the half brother of nine-time world champion Valentino Rossi.

Jorge Lorenzo has returned to winning ways in a highly dramatic Hertz British Grand Prix at Silverstone, beating championship leader Marc Marquez by less than one tenth of a second. Dani Pedrosa completed the podium as home favourite Cal Crutchlow struggled to seventh place.

On Saturday, Marquez had clinched his third pole position in five race meetings but further participation was put in doubt when he dislocated his left shoulder by crashing in Sunday morning Warm-Up. After being given the green light in the circuit Medical Centre, the 20-year-old Repsol Honda Team rider headed up the front row from Yamaha Factory Racing’s Lorenzo and Monster Yamaha Tech3’s Crutchlow.

Critically for Lorenzo, the Mallorcan made another strong start and dived into the lead at Copse corner. In a near repeat performance to Brno last weekend, he would proceed to resolutely defend from both Repsol Honda Team riders. Marquez then seized the advantage at Brooklands just over two laps from home, only for Lorenzo to retake the lead as he confidently out-braked his opponent at Vale. On the final lap, Marquez again grabbed the advantage at Brooklands, before Lorenzo re-passed in a confident move at Luffield, which featured slight contract between the two bikes.

The leading duo crossed the finish line separated by just 81 thousandths of a second, meaning Silverstone continues a pattern from Brno of witnessing the closest finish of the season so far. Struggling for rear grip, Pedrosa was a further one and a half seconds behind, having been unable to take advantage of the battling pair in front of him. In fourth spot was Valentino Rossi who, having dropped back after his strong start, had become involved in yet another entertaining battle with GO&FUN Honda Gresini’s Alvaro Bautista, while LCR Honda MotoGP’s Stefan Bradl finished in sixth place.

Having missed his home race in 2011 before starting at the back in 2012, Cal Crutchlow had hoped for a much stronger Silverstone weekend in 2013. He crashed twice on Saturday and again in Sunday’s Warm-Up, then paid the price for a poor getaway as the Tech3 rider plummeted from third to sixth at the start. He would fall back to his eventual finishing position of seventh when the charging Bautista – who had lined up eighth on the grid – overtook at the end of Lap 1.

Crutchlow’s teammate Bradley Smith again found himself dicing with the pair of Ducati Team riders, but was ultimately taken advantage of by Nicky Hayden for eighth place. Smith would end the day ninth, while Andrea Dovizioso crashed out on the penultimate tour. The Italian joined second-lap faller Lukas Pesek (Came IodaRacing Project) on the sidelines, promoting Power Electronics Aspar’s Aleix Espargaro into the top ten despite a broken finger and injured neck after a Saturday crash; he therefore led home the CRT riders as PBM’s Michael Laverty ended his maiden home race in 19th position, ahead of Colombian teammate Yonny Hernandez.

Following the race, it was announced that Marquez has been given two Penalty Points under the new system due to not slowing down under the yellow flags in the morning Warm-Up. This also happened to be the moment that saw him crash at the same turn as Cal Crutchlow. Not to be confused with Championship Points, the penalty system was introduced in 2013, under which Up to 10 penalty points can be imposed, with sanctions applied at certain thresholds. Any rider reaching four penalty points starts the next race from the back of the grid, while seven points lead to a pit lane start and 10 points a race ban.

With the triple-header of Indianapolis, Brno and Silverstone now over, MotoGP™ returns in two weekends’ time with the GP Aperol di San Marino e della Riviera di Rimini from Misano World Circuit Marco Simoncelli. With six events remaining in 2013, debutant Marquez carries an advantage of 30 points over Pedrosa, with Sunday’s winner Lorenzo now trailing the championship leader by 39 points.

Moto2™ championship leader Scott Redding has won his home Grand Prix at Silverstone. The Marc VDS Racing Team rider, who took the lead off the start line, was assisted in the closing stages as a tight battled raged for second place. Pole-sitter Takaaki Nakagami and Tom Luthi completed the podium.

On Saturday, Japan’s Nakagami had claimed his second pole position within the space of a week, but it was Redding who seized the lead as the red lights went out. Critically for the English rider, much fighting over the remaining rostrum places would prove a decisive element in his first home victory since 2008, when he had claimed a career-first win in the 125 class at Donington Park.

A race-long duel between Nakagami (Italtrans Racing Team) and Luthi (Interwetten Paddock Moto2 Racing) featured various changes of position, not least on the last lap when the duo swapped places at Vale and Club corners before battling deep into the Brooklands complex. The Japanese would finish ahead of the Swiss, with Tuenti HP 40’s Tito Rabat and Technomag carXpert’s Dominique Aegerter in close attendance. Redding’s teammate and Brno winner Mika Kallio was sixth.

Sunday was a difficult affair for title contender Pol Espargaro. Following a crash at the start of the Warm-Up session, the Tuenti HP 40 rider started sixth on the grid but lost ground in the early stages of the race – falling to as low as 11th. He fought back up to eighth behind Came IodaRacing Project’s Johann Zarco, but crucially loses a further 17 points in his championship fight with Redding. Six races remain in 2013.

Three riders failed to finish. Argiñano & Gines Racing’s Alberto Moncayo was an early faller, while British wildcard Gino Rea (Gino Rea Montaze Broz Racing, fracturing the fourth metacarpus of his right hand) and Xavier Simeon (Maptaq SAG Zelos Team) crashed across the final pair of laps.

At JiR Moto2, Australian Jason O’Halloran finished 25th as he replaced France’s Mike di Meglio, injured at Brno last weekend, while both Blusens Avintia’s Dani Rivas and Argiñano & Gines Racing’s Steven Odendaal missed the race following a multiple collision at the end of the morning Warm-Up.

Moto2 continues in two weekends’ time, with the GP Aperol di San Marino e della Riviera di Rimini at Misano World Circuit Marco Simoncelli. Scott Redding – who has become the first Briton to win an intermediate class race in his home country since Tom Herron triumphed at the Isle of Man TT in 1976 – will head to Italy with a 38-point championship advantage over Pol Espargaro.

Luis Salom has extended his Moto3™ championship lead with a second consecutive victory, beating Alex Rins by just 49 thousandths of a second in the Hertz British Grand Prix at Silverstone. Alex Marquez rounded out the rostrum while pole-sitter Maverick Viñales just failed to establish a new podium finishes record.

Silverstone marked the end of the triple-header, which had first taken the championship to Indianapolis and Brno; with this in mind, many were keen to sign off with victory ahead of a two-week break until the next race.

Salom started as he meant to continue by shooting into the lead from third on the grid. Before the 17 laps were completed, however, the Red Bull KTM Ajo rider would exchange positions on various occasions with Team Calvo’s Viñales and Estrella Galicia 0,0’s Rins, with Rins’ teammate Marquez also very much in the battle. Salom would confirm his sixth win of the season by less than half a tenth of a second, with second-placed Rins having had to defend as well as attack on the final tour.

Marquez’s top three result was his second in three races, while in fourth Viñales finished off the podium for the first time this year; in the process, he just misses out on becoming the first rider in history to claim 11 successive podium finishes from the start of a season in the lower class of the World Championship. The top six was completed by Mahindra Racing’s Miguel Oliveira and Mapfre Aspar Team Moto3’s Jonas Folger, while Britain’s John McPhee (Caretta Technology – RTG) scored two points in his home Grand Prix, finishing 14th.

Four riders failed to see the chequered flag, including La Fonte Tascaracing’s Alessandro Tonucci who was involved in a high-speed Woodcote collision with Aspar’s Eric Granado in the closing stages of the races. The first pair of retirements were CIP Moto3’s Juanfran Guevara and teammate Alan Techer, both out of the race in a first-lap collision at Vale with Racing Steps Foundation KRP’s Wayne Ryan. Zulfahmi Khairuddin, teammate to Salom, recovered to 20th place after being forced to start from the pit lane following technical problems on the grid.

Salom’s championship lead over Viñales is now 26 points, with Rins a further seven behind. Moto3™ continues at the Misano World Circuit Marco Simoncelli, with the GP Aperol di San Marino e della Riviera di Rimini taking place in two weeks’ time.

MotoGP: I test in Malesia danno il via alla stagione 2013


“La moto è migliorata, Lorenzo e il suo team hanno fatto un bel lavoro. La 1000cc è più veloce ma è anche più facile da guidare e questo grazie ad un bel passo in avanti a livello di elettronica. Puoi farci quello che vuoi, più o meno”. Queste la parole di Valentino Rossi dopo il primo vero test alla guida della sua nuova Yamaha M1.

Oggi, con la prima sessione di test, si apre ufficialmente a Sepang la stagione 2013 della MotoGP.
Quest’anno la Spagna presenta tre favoriti alla lotta al titolo iridato: l’attuale campione del mondo in carica Jorge Lorenzo su Yamaha Factory Racing, Dani Pedrosa su Honda Repsol ,e la new entry Marc Marquez attuale campione del mondo della categoria Moto2, ai quali si aggiunge sicuramente Valentino Rossi al suo ritorno in casa Yamaha al fianco del pilota majorchino.

La sessione di test non poteva iniziare in un modo migliore, e sono proprio i quattro piloti appena nominati che, sull’asfalto del Sepang International Circuit, si danno battaglia a ritmo di giri veloci. Bastano pochi giri ed ecco tornare il pilota di Tavullia al primo posto della classifica provvisoria, del resto il feeling con la M1 non lo ha mai perso. Dani e Jorge seguono a brevissima distanza; a fine giornata sarà Dani Pedrosa a fa segnare le prestazione migliore, seguito da Lorenzo, Marquez e Rossi. Il distacco tra i primi quattro è inferiore al mezzo secondo.
Siamo ancora alla prima giornata di test, ed altre ne seguiranno, ma questi primi e pochi dati potrebbero essere sufficienti a dare una prospettiva abbastanza chiara su chi sarà in lotta per il titolo mondiale 2013.

Valentino Rossi durante la prima intervista ufficiale post sessione, ha dichiarato con il sorriso sulle labbra “Questa è la mia moto“. Il pilota di Tavullia ha immediatamente trovato il giusto feeling con la M1 girando subito su tempi molto veloci. Valentino ringrazia anche il suo ritrovato compagno di squadra, dandogli il merito di aver contribuito alla realizzazione di una moto ancor migliore di quella che il dottore lasciò nel 2010 per abbracciare l’esperienza poco fruttuosa in Ducati.

Anche il campione del mondo Jorge Lorenzo si dimostra soddisfatto della sua M1, elogiando le doti del nuovo telaio elencandone vantaggi e svantaggi, ma rimanendo ancora dubbioso sul problema principale della Yamaha: la moto continua a muoversi molto in accelerazione

E’ brutto anticipare le conclusioni, soprattutto alla fine della prima sessione di test, ma guardando in casa Ducati, mi sembra di vedere un film già visto più di una volta. La casa di Borgo Panigale, da poco passata sotto la dirigenza Audi, ha chiuso la prima giornata con Nicky Hayden e Andrea Dovizioso, rispettivamente con il 10° e 13° tempo fermando il cronometro a più di 2″ dalla vetta della classifica. E’ chiaro che la base della moto è quella dello scorso anno, ma è sicuramente da qui che bisogna ripartire per capire le problematiche di questa “rossa” nel tentativo di renderla più competitiva.

Tra qualche ora i campioni della MotoGP scenderanno nuovamente in pista a Sepang per la seconda sessione di prove ufficiali in vista della prima gara che si terrà Domenica 7 Aprile sul circuito di Losail in Quatar
